It'll cleam 'em just like using an old toothbrush & soap.

However, they won't be shiny because the luster will also be removed.

There is a hotel that washes its change in a tumbler type machine. Dirt, grime, soil, grease, etc. is removed so that even a white glove cannot be stained........but the mirror-like qualities of a 'mint' coin are forever gone.

I use silver dip to clean my generic bullion coins ive picked up at coin shows that are tarnished, but for my silver numismatic coins (1997 silver maple leaf, silver eagles etc etc etc) I dont mess with them and leave them in the condition I bought them in.

Good idea Big Rob. Before I was cured by reading this forum I had SOS (Shiny Object Syndrome) and I spent most of my disposable income on numismatic coins.

Except for in very specific cases,(PVC damage, caked on dirt, etc) and when done by someone who really knows what they are doing, any attempt at cleaning will only result in drastically lowering the resale value of a numismatic coin, sometimes to bullion level.

I also dip my silver bullion bars and rounds that need it, because they are not about numismatics anyway, and they just look better nice and shiny. I will admit that when I get bored I like going through my hoard and looking at all my purty PMs, lol.

Oh, another thing that this board has done for me: I recently sold an MS65 NGC certified Standing Liberty Quarter I bought a few years ago and used the proceeds to buy an ounce of gold (AE) and a few generic ounces of silver. If you think about the trade in PM terms, I did pretty damn good!

I still have another NGC MS65 SLQ my wife gave me as an anniversary present the first year we were married, but that has sentimental value.
